Hi!
Yesterday, my brand new 42PJ350 was delivered.
It's my first tv without a crt, so I am quit new to this theme. I read a lot (btw. great forum!), understand some and tried almost everything with some strange results.

Here is what I tried:

Model 42PJ350
Firmware is 3.16
it was produced in May 2010

First thing:
I tried to enter the EZ-Adjust-Menu (wanted to enabled Vidoe from USB)
When sending the command with an universal IR Remote, the tv asks for the password on the screen.
Unfortunately, it seems to be not 0000 or 1234 or anythink else I tried, so have you any ideas?
I can try 3 Codes, then the OSD disappears, but I can press the key on the remote again, there seems to be not limitation or locking for wrong password...

Second approach:
I connected a serial cable between the tv an my computer, using Putty.

With 115k and ESC, I can watch the TV boot when I switch it on (only warm start with remote control), but the boot stops somewhere and he is waiting for commands while the display stays black. Maybe a result of the ESC key pressed? Powering off and on restarts the tv normally.

With 9600 and a completely startet tv, I can enter the debug menu (called ORG Menu) some times, F10 seens not to work at all, enterning debug (CR) and d (CR) seems to work sometimes, but not allways, I am not sure, but I think only d (CR) has worked sometimes, too. Was a little confusing, but I will test this again... I found a little different menu then it is shown here:
http://www.lg-hack.info/cgi-bin/sn_forumr.cgi?fid=2676&cid=2674&tid=2699&pg=1&sc=20&x=0
but ok, this is a different model. It looks quit similar to this, but some items where different. I found no place to activate the EZ-Adjust, after searching a while, I found a menu which was called something like Instart Debug Menu, but it looked no very interestig or helpfull. Can someone tell what exactly the In-Start (and In-Stop) is? Is this a OSD-Menu, a serial menu, not at all a menu???

I tried the LG eZ-NetManager Software, after installation and setting to serial (checked for the right COM and parameters...), it does not recognize the tv, everything with MTD 0 has no feedback and selecting another MTD (), 2 or any other) results in an error message could not open port or something. I changed the Set ID to 1 (and 2 or 3), but with no other result.

I stopped then because it was quite early in the morning and I prefered to sleep a least some hours before going to the office today...

I am interessed in enabling the Video from USB, enabling THX, enabling anything possible...
I would like to export, modify and reload the channel configurations (I understand the TLL file, I found some software here, but I have to export/import from the Instart menu... right?)
This TV has a DVB-T and a DVB-C tuner, but it looks that it can only use one, and you have to decide when setting it up... Is there a chance to use both of them? I receive some digital programs from my cable provider which are free, these ones are missung in DVB-T, but there are some programms in DVB-T that are scrambled in DVB-C, and I have no CI Interface. (Yes, I can receive DVB-T with the cable plugged in quit well...) I look for a trick e.g. setup DVB-C and then manuall tune some DVB-T stations.

I can try to extract the firmware or send any serial logs if you are interessed in, please let me know.

And please, tell me the PIN / Password for the EZ-Adjust menu!!! I will try to phone LG support later this day and just ask for it, let's have a look.

Through serial :
instead of d + enter, try u + enter you should get UI remote debug menu like this
=================== [ UI Keyboard Test Mode ] ===================
'0' ~ '9' : Number Key, '-' : Dash
',' : Vol.Down, '.' : Vol.Up, '>' : Ch.Up, '<' Ch.Down
'[' : Up, '/' : Down, ';' : Left, ''' : Right
'M' : Main Menu, 'H' : Home Menu, 'X' : Exit, 'I' : Brief Info.
'B' : flashBack, 'A' : SAP(audio), 'U' : Mute, 'P' : Pip
'R' : Ratio, 'V' : Ext.Input, 'C' : Caption, 'F' : favorite
'D' : DW TS, 'E' : HDMI_CEC 'G' : Guide, 's' : INSTOP
'K' : In start, 'L' : Adjust
[ESC] : UI Keyboard Mode Exit
=================================================================
KEY : l ==> Adjust

k key bring you instart menu on TV while l brings EZ-Adjust

The PIN code for 3.16 seems to be 0413, found on another forum.

Tell me if you can activate USB music/photo and/or Video.

Hi Arno,

thank you very much, you where absolut right!
The PIN is 0413 and it's working for EZ-Adjust and In-Start menu.
I was able to enter both menus after pressung u and the k or l or even with IR.

My model supports USB with JPG and MP3 by default, but no video from USB.

In Ez-Adjust / ToolOption3 there are switched for JPG/MPG and DivX.
Default was ToolOption3 Value 35020 (JPG/MP3 = 1 and DivX = Off)
Possible values for DivX are Off / SD / HD. I tried SD (ToolOption3 = 43212) and HD (ToolOption3 = 41404)
That means to me, that bit 13 controls DivX Off or on (SD), but a little strange masking for HD...

Unfortunately, it had not result at all, I checked twice that the new values are still there when I enter the menu again, I made a cold restart of the tv (unplugged for some time), but in the USB menu, there is only still Picture and Music as it was before.

Some with ToolOption4, here is a switch THX with possible values 0 and 1, default was 0 (3360). I changed it to 1 (11552), seems to be bit 13 again. In the sound menu, there were no change. I'm not quite sure where it should appear, but expect it somewhere like sound profiles or so...

Seems to me that the guys from LG realize what is going on and they still want to sell some of the models with DivX and THX enabled by default fot some more money...
My ideas: there is somewhere a value stored which model you have and the featres appear only if you enable them and you have the right model id stored. So it would be nice if this model identifier could be changed. Or is it possible to use a firmware of an better model (e.g. 42PJ550)? There might be a hard coded identifier in the firmware... It would be interessting to know if it was possible to enable these features on older firmware with this hardware.

I hope everything is softcoded, so LG does not need to have different mainboards, firmware or so as spare parts.

I still havn't managed to extract the TLL file. I read I have to press the menu key on IR when in the In-Start menu. I did so and a different menu appeared, but there where no item like export configuratino to USB, I wasn't able to follow the exampled I found because it was a russian model there and never learned this...

Thanks and greeting

oops, I checked the article about extracting the TLL again:

http://www.lg-hack.info/cgi-bin/sn_forumr.cgi?fid=2677&cid=2674&tid=2690&pg=1&sc=20&x=0

It is not a russian firmware, but the server which seems to host the pictures returns a message in cyrillic for the first two pictures. It might mean something like "File not found", but with a little closer look, I found that all necessary information is already in the text. (You are in advance if you can read!).

Sorry for this, I will try to export them this weekend.

Hi The frog,

same for me 50pk250 DIVX does not work.

Yes there is another place => nvram / eeprom

look in the relevant topic of this forum.

If you can extract your nvram, we could compare !

Hi Arna!

Sorry, it took some time, but I was not allowed by my wife and son even to come close to the tv with my laptop prior to the worldcup match on sunday...

I extracted my firmware and my NVRAM, here they are:

Firmware of LG 42PJ350 Version 3.16
http://rapidshare.com/files/398924241/42PJ350V316.zip.html

NVRAM dito (Log of the dump, DivX=HD and THX=1 via IR, but no function, USB with MP3 and JPG working)
http://rapidshare.com/files/398924242/42PF350V316nvram.zip.html

I had some strange effects: there seem to be 22 Partitions (mtd0 to mtd22, but I wasn't able to cat the last two of them, and I got some error messages or warning during copy them, maybe a timing problem of the tv, I guess thats not a problem. I copy the log at the end of this post.

I hope this might help you or someone else to find out something more.
